Renovation work on the 11th floor of USA Health University Hospital is on track to add 34 beds by the end of June 2021, expanding the hospital’s capacity to provide unique patient services for our region.
Construction plans call for 34 state-of-the-art medical/surgical suites on the 11th floor, including four American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant patient rooms, associated nursing stations and common areas, said Robert “Bobby” Stanford, director of facilities management.
The work is part of a $15.2 million project to overhaul the 10th and 11th floors, and upgrade the mechanical systems throughout the hospital, said Sam Dean, administrator for University Hospital. “When completed, this project makes a total of 125 new beds that we have put into operation since October 2017 to enhance access to our unique patient services that are so critically needed by our community,” Dean said.
USA Health received permission from the Alabama Certificate of Need Review Board for the renovation project in August. Construction is expected to be completed on both floors by the end of 2021.
