Located within the Family Medicine department at the USA Health Strada Patient Care Center, the All of Us Research Program recently installed a kiosk to provide an interactive tool for new and current participants.

The kiosk allows people to enroll in the program easily or log in to their account to check for updates and surveys while they are at Strada. “More than 85 percent of our participants are USA Health patients,” said Jillian Bowers, M.P.H., project leader for the All of Us Research Program. “Realizing this, we wanted to provide them with an opportunity to check in with All of Us during their healthcare appointment, making it more convenient for them to complete additional surveys or update consents when waiting to see their healthcare provider. All of Us is a 10-year program, and continued participant engagement is critical to its success for both the participant and the research being conducted.”

Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the All of Us Research Program seeks to improve the health of all through medical research. The goal is to make healthcare more tailored to each individual. To achieve this goal, program participants are asked to complete online surveys, share electronic health records and provide bio-samples throughout the duration of the program.

The All of Us Research Program at USA Health is led by Errol Crook, M.D., professor and Abraham Mitchell Chair of Internal Medicine at USA Health; Allen Perkins, M.D., professor and chair of Family Medicine at USA Health, and co-principal investigator of the All of Us Research Program; and Martha Arrieta, M.D., Ph.D., director of research at the USA Health Center for Healthy Communities and lead of the All of Us Research Program community engagement. Bowers oversees participant enrollment at each of three recruitment sites: Strada Patient Care Center, the Mastin Patient Care Center next to University Hospital and the Stanton Road Clinic.

Since the program’s beginning in May 2018, more than 1,300 participants have enrolled through USA Health. So far, more than 23,000 participants have enrolled through the Southern network that includes Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

The All of Us Research Program aims to enable discoveries that will improve overall health by encouraging the public to take an active role in steering the future of health research. The national All of Us recruitment goal is 1 million people. By joining the program, participants help advance the future of health.
