Free car seat safety checks on June 23 at Strada Patient Care Center

Car seat technicians can determine if children are in the right seat for their age and size, and explain the importance of registering car seats with the manufacturers so owners can be notified if there is a recall.

Parents and caregivers have an opportunity on Friday, June 23, to ensure their children’s car seats are properly installed. Nearly a dozen nationally certified car seat safety technicians will be at the Strada Patient Care Center offering free inspections from 9 a.m. until noon.

While there is no charge for the safety inspections, appointments are needed. To schedule a free appointment, sign up.

During car seat inspections, all improperly installed car seats (and boosters) are removed and checked for expiration dates and damage. The event will be in the lower-level parking lot of the Strada Patient Care Center, 1601 Center Street in Mobile, close to the Geri Moulton Children’s Park.

The event is being staffed by USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital, USA Health Pediatrics and Pediatric Associates of Mobile/USA Health.

Unfortunately, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children. Research shows that some 46% of car seats are not used correctly. Using age- and size-appropriate car seats and installing them correctly are the best ways to reduce crash fatalities among children, safety experts say.

Trained technicians can help determine if children are in the right seat for their age and size, and explain the importance of registering car seats with the manufacturers so owners can be notified if there is a recall.
