USA Health is celebrating its advanced practice providers this week with several events in their honor.

Advanced practice provider is a term referring to Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Physician Assistants and midwives. There are more than 150 advanced practice providers at USA Health providing care to patients in nearly every department.

“Advanced practice providers serve as vital support for patients across the health system,” said Valerie K. Heinl, MHA, MSN, RN, NE-BC, nurse manager of telemetry, oncology and outpatient infusions at University Hospital. “They provide consistency and expertise to various service lines. USA Health is fortunate to have such a strong group of advanced practice providers to serve our patients and the community.”

In addition to a luncheon held Monday, all advanced practice providers are invited to a dinner on Wednesday Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. at Red or White Wine & Gourmet Center at 1104 Dauphin Street in Mobile. The dinner, sponsored by Polarity TE, will feature guest speaker Dr. Julee Waldrop, FNP, PNP, an experienced nurse practitioner and professor of nursing at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She will speak on ways for advanced practice providers to demonstrate their role as a vital part of the medical team.

The event is being organized by the USA Health Advanced Practice Provider Council. APPs should RSVP for the dinner by emailing kadler@health.southalabama.edu.

Meanwhile, advanced practice providers are hosting a food drive this week benefiting Feeding the Gulf Coast in honor of National Hunger Action Month. Food will be collected in each department at the Strada Patient Care Center, University Hospital and Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Feeding the Gulf Coast works to nourish the community and helps establish stronger, healthier families.

The department collecting the most food per person will receive a congratulatory doughnut breakfast.
