The USA Health Integrative Health and Wellness Program recently announced its class schedule for the first quarter of 2025.

The first three months of the year feature hands-on cooking classes that focus on an introduction to plant-forward diets, choosing healthy carbs, eating healthy proteins, and making healthy breakfasts. Multiple sessions of each class will be offered at the teaching kitchens at the Mapp Family Campus in Fairhope and University Commons in Mobile.

USA and USA Health employees and their dependents on USA Choice, Select and Consumer health insurance plans, are eligible to take classes for $10 each. For the public, and those not on specified health insurance plans already mentioned, the classes are $30 each.

Additional classes are also available: Two sessions will address joint health and managing symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS).

  • The first is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17, from noon to 1 p.m. at the University Commons with rheumatologist Yanming Xing, M.D., who will discuss joint health, along with Chinese cooking techniques. This cooking demonstration is available to USA employees with insurance through USA for $5. It is open to the public for $10.
  • The second class on joint health will be a hands-on cooking experience led by Wiliam Kilgo, M.D., a neurologist who specializes in the treatment of MS. He will lead a class at the Mapp Family Campus teaching kitchen on Wednesday, March 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. that will cover MS topics and how to use diet for symptom improvement.

Classes may fill up quickly, as a number of USA Health and USA employees have already been taking advantage of this benefit. Learn more about what dishes will be prepared and sign up for classes.
