First cooking classes held at USA Health Mapp Family Campus
USA Health hosted pilot classes at the Mapp Family Campus in Fairhope ahead of offering hands-on teaching sessions in the fully-stocked kitchen.
While developing its fully-stocked teaching kitchen, USA Health hosted some pilot cooking classes at the Mapp Family Campus in Fairhope.
“We had our first series of Living Healthy with Diabetes classes,” said Phyllus Justice, M.P.H., RD, CDE, diabetes resource coordinator at the USA Health Mobile Diagnostic Center. “They went well, with excellent reviews from the patients who attended.”
A small group of patients who had expressed interest in cooking classes were invited. During the classes, various techniques — such as how to properly cut vegetables — were demonstrated, and attendees prepared simple, healthy recipes, including chicken lettuce wraps, banana ice cream, and mint berry fruit cups.
