As cold and flu season settles in, USA Health is moving its drive-through COVID-19 testing site from inside the Mobile Civic Center arena to nearby Expo Hall. The new location is set to open Monday, Nov. 2.

So far, more than 17,500 tests for COVID-19 have been administered at public sites that USA Health developed in partnership with the City of Mobile. USA Health staff have performed the tests on patients, first responders including law enforcement, fire fighters, nursing home workers, county jail staff and USA Health personnel.

With the move to Expo Hall, which is connected to the Civic Center, the drive-through entrance for patients will move from the main entrance to the Lawrence Street side of the property. The process for being tested will remain the same. Patients will drive inside the Expo Hall venue through over-sized doors for testing and then drive out after testing.

“With respiratory season upon us, it is important to continue COVID-19 testing in order to assure we are treating symptoms and illnesses appropriately,” said Haley Kirby, MS. Ed., operations coordinator for the USA Health pandemic testing center. “We need to continue to encourage community awareness as we are still in the midst of an international pandemic.”

The rate of positive COVID-19 tests has increased in Mobile County over the past few weeks, Kirby said, so it is vital to continue to monitor symptomatic patients and asymptomatic exposures to prevent community spread as much as possible.

As a reminder, testing is by appointment only and those seeking testing should call 1-888-USA-2650 (1-888-872-2650). Phones are answered weekdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The tests are performed weekdays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. No one will be admitted to the site for testing without an appointment and proper identification. USA Health patients can continue to contact their USA Health provider if they believe they need to be tested.
