Happy CRNA Week!

Jan. 22-28 is National Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Week. Join us as we thank our CRNAs for all they do at USA Health! Currently, 16 CRNAs are employed at University Hospital and seven at Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

Greg Bouska, M.D., MPA, chief of anesthesia at USA Health, said though he is an anesthesiologist, CRNAs have had a profound impact on his life

“Whether it was a labor epidural or a general anesthetic, I have trusted CRNAs in the most challenging aspects of patient care for myself, siblings, parents and my children,” Bouska said. “A sincere thank you for all you do.”

Do you know these facts about CRNAs?

  • Nurses first began giving anesthesia to wounded soldiers during the American Civil War.
  • The CRNA credential was established in 1956.
  • According to AMN HealthCare, CRNAs administer more than 50 million anesthetics to patients each year in America.
  • CRNAs are the U.S. military’s primary anesthesia providers.
  • Nurse anesthesia programs are between 24 and 51 months long depending on the university’s requirements.

“We are very grateful for our USA Health CRNAs and celebrate them during CRNA Week,” said Shannon Scaturro, MSHA, FACHE, University Hospital administrator. “They provide high quality and lifesaving care to our region every day and are invaluable members of our team. I wish them the happiest of CRNA Week celebrations and thank them for their many contributions to patient care and safety at USA Health.”
