Deadline approaching for flu vaccine

With a deadline of Oct. 31 approaching, USA Health has made it easy for employees to get their mandatory flu vaccines this week. The vaccine protects against two Influenza A strains and two Influenza B strains, and is an especially important precaution during the pandemic.
To date, approximately 74 percent of employees have been vaccinated at University Hospital, and 84 percent have been vaccinated at Children’s & Women’s Hospital. USA Health requires all personnel to have the flu vaccine or possess an approved exception as a condition of employment or access to patients. It is available free of charge.
Benjamin Estrada, M.D., professor and vice chair of pediatrics and an infectious disease specialist at USA Health, has said that, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, getting the influenza vaccine this year is “more important than ever.”
