Employees can expect to see some small changes to the look and feel of their computer desktops in a few days.

To provide better speed and performance, USA Health system virtual desktop environments (VMware or Horizon) will be upgraded to Microsoft Windows 10 from Windows 7. On Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 a.m., employees can expect to see some small changes to the look and feel of their Windows computer desktops.

“While Windows 10 may sound new, it is a well-tested operating system that is fully supported by Microsoft to protect our staff, the health system, and our patients,” said Steve Travers, Ph.D., M.B.A, chief information officer for USA Health. “The Windows 10 platform will provide better speed and performance with our applications.”

Travers said the return of the start menu will make it easier to navigate to applications and will offer better browser performance to allow for web applications to work more smoothly. The migration will provide a cleaner desktop that limits the amount of clutter for easy access to tools end-users need most often.

With the addition of Office 365 and OneDrive, users can securely access files used internally and externally with our environment to allow for better work performance and improved patient care.
