Doctors’ Day meals, gifts coming

National Doctors’ Day is a holiday that honors physicians for the work they do for their patients, their communities and society as a whole.

In celebration of National Doctors’ Day, USA Health will provide special meals and gifts for its physicians on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.

A grab-and-go breakfast will be set up at Children’s & Women’s Hospital from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the administration board room. A grab-and-go lunch will be offered at University Hospital from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the café conference room.

In addition, USA Health will provide eco-friendly lunch containers as gifts for the physicians.

USA Health employs 618 physicians, including residents, fellows and faculty, and temporary physicians and faculty members.

National Doctors’ Day is a holiday that honors physicians for the work they do for their patients, their communities and society as a whole. In 1990, former President George H. W. Bush proclaimed March 30 as National Doctors’ Day, marking the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery.

“Healthcare workers have to process and carry many emotions as they care for patients who are experiencing disease and traumatic events,” said Kim Crawford Meeks, manager of the Spiritual Care and Counseling Department. “Safe and sacred spaces to aid in the processing of emotions are vital to our health and ability to sustain this type of work.”
