Support requested for employee emergency fund
“The Employee Emergency Fund is all about helping our USA Health family members,” Crawford Meeks said. “Thank you so much for giving funds, which is also giving love. I believe you will be blessed in return.”
The University of South Alabama’s annual giving campaign raises money for scholarship funds, programs and departments that serve students and patients. One such fund is the USA Health Employee Emergency Fund.
“I have calls regularly from our USA Health family members needing help,” said Kim Crawford Meeks, manager of USA Health’s spiritual care and counseling department, which has an Employee Emergency Fund Committee to review requests. “The emergency fund has very little support.”
During the annual giving campaign, Crawford Meeks wants to raise awareness of this important resource.
“The fund has helped several employees who have suffered loss due to fires and wind damage,” she said. “Right now, loss and damage due to natural disasters and fires are qualifying events. As the fund grows, we will be able to increase the number of qualifying events.”
Assistance like this is personal to Crawford Meeks. She lost her home to a tornado in January 2012, but funds like this one were available from her previous employer to provide support.
“This fund is special to my heart because of the tornado my family endured,” she said. “Gifts from funds like this one and from family and friends helped us so much and reminded us of how much we are loved.”
