USA Health employees donated 4,160 meals to those in need
The donations for the Season of Giving food drive amounted to 4,160 meals, which were given to families in need in the Gulf Coast area during the holiday season.
Because of your generosity during the holiday season, USA Health employees collected three boxes of gifts for Toys for Tots, plus 68 pounds of food and $820 in cash for Feeding the Gulf Coast. The donations for the Season of Giving food drive amounted to 4,160 meals, which were given to families in need in the Gulf Coast area during the holiday season.
Another way employees can help those in need is by taking part in the Backpack Program, a food-drive benefiting Holloway Elementary School, University Hospital’s partner in education. That drive is planned for the spring of 2021. Plans call for USA Health to work with Feeding the Gulf Coast again for this fundraiser. Monetary donations will contribute to providing meals to students, with $135 covering the cost of meals and snacks for the school year for children who might not have enough to eat on weekends.
Checks for the Backpack Program can be made out to Feeding the Gulf Coast with the memo “backpack.” To make a donation or for more information, contact Farheen Surtie, M.D. or John Anaya, M.D at janaya@health.southalabama.edu.
