On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration fully approved the first COVID-19 vaccine for use in those age 16 and older. USA Health has been distributing the vaccine, known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, under an emergency use authorization since Dec. 15, 2020.

So far, USA Health has administered more than 86,600 doses of the vaccine, said Natalie Fox, DNP, assistant administrator and chief nursing officer for USA Health Physicians Group.

“We’re hopeful this will give people more confidence that the vaccine is safe and effective,” Fox said. “If you still have questions, talk to your healthcare provider.”

The vaccine continues to be available under emergency use authorization for those age 12 through 15 and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.
