Reminder about SouthFlex FSAs

Mark these deadlines on your calendar to make the best use of your SouthFlex Health Care or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts.

If you were enrolled in the SouthFlex Health Care and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for 2021 and currently have funds remaining in your account, this is a reminder to use your funds for eligible medical and/or dependent care expenses by Dec. 31, 2022. You also must file for the reimbursement of incurred qualified expenses towards these account balances by Dec. 31, 2022.

If you currently are enrolled in the SouthFlex Flexible Spending Accounts for 2022, this is a reminder to use your funds for eligible medical expenses by March 15, 2023, and file for reimbursement by April 15, 2023. For dependent care accounts, you must incur eligible qualifying expenses by Dec. 31, 2022, and file for reimbursement by April 15, 2023.

Some examples of qualifying medical expenses include copays for office visits and prescriptions, blood-pressure monitoring devices, contact lenses and solution, eye examinations and prescription eyeglasses/sunglasses, reading glasses, and hearing aids and batteries.

Over-the-counter medications and other eligible products can be reimbursed through a health flexible spending account without a doctor’s prescription. Examples of eligible over-the-counter items include, but are not limited to, pain relievers, antacids, antibiotic ointments, bandages, cold medicine, decongestants, first aid kits, incontinence supplies, motion sickness products, sinus medications and throat lozenges.
