USA Health is expanding its academic physician base with the addition of Sara McConnell, D.O., who specializes in internal medicine and pediatrics. McConnell will apply her knowledge of osteopathic medicine at Mastin Internal Medicine and at the 1610 Center St. location of the pediatrics residency clinic.

McConnell says the opportunity to treat a broad spectrum of diagnoses in a wide variety of patients initially piqued her interest in internal medicine-pediatrics.

“When I learned that internal medicine-pediatrics was an option, I thought it would be a good fit for me,” she said. “I enjoy working with patients across all ages. It also allows me to see patients that may be in the same family, which helps create a stronger bond with those patients.”

McConnell completed her internal medicine-pediatrics residency at the USA College of Medicine/USA Health in 2021. She chose USA after touring the campus and hearing positive feedback about the health system. “I heard that USA had a good program with great educational opportunities. I got to meet some of the team at USA Health, and I really enjoyed meeting our people here,” she said.

McConnell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human development and psychology from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2011. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida, in 2017.

McConnell is certified with the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), the American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
