Khan gives community talk on cancer
Mohammad Aslam Khan, Ph.D., gave an overview during his presentation of USA Health’s Cancer Prevention Program and its areas of research and outreach programs which target diverse populations in the Gulf Coast region.
Mohammad Aslam Khan, Ph.D., a senior research associate at the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute in the department of pathology, recently presented “Understanding Cancer and Cancer Research” at a community services event at the Mobile Public Library.
The meeting, organized by Coastal Family Partners, brought together parents and grandparents of children enrolled in the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), a program of the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education, to connect them with resources in the community.
Khan presented on cancer, tools for diagnosis, common myths and misconceptions, risk factors and health disparities. He gave an overview of USA Health’s Cancer Prevention Program and its areas of research and outreach programs which target diverse populations in the Gulf Coast region.
Khan, who works in the lab of Ajay Singh, Ph.D., professor of pathology and leader of the cancer biology program at the MCI, also discussed his lab-based cancer research. Specifically, he explained his role in investigating why therapy does not work in pancreatic cancer, understanding health disparities in pancreatic and prostate cancer patients, and developing cancer biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis.
