Meet Gynny and Leo
A call for robot names last fall drew multiple submissions from employees at Children’s & Women’s Hospital and University Hospital.
The two new surgical robots welcomed to USA Health last fall have been named.
The da Vinci Xi used in gynecologic surgeries at Children’s & Women’s Hospital will be called Gynny (pronounced Ginny). Her counterpart at University Hospital is named Leo — short for Leonardo.
The two robots were delivered and installed in operating rooms this past September. A subsequent call for names for the new additions drew submissions from employees at both hospitals. Kathi Osborne, a grant writer at Children’s & Women’s Hospital, submitted both names, and Leo was also suggested by Franklin Smith, a security officer, and Bernie Dorrough, associate director of marketing and communications.
The addition of the two robots expanded USA Health’s growing robot-assisted surgery program from four robots to six. The da Vinci Xi can be used across a wide spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures including general surgeries, and urologic, gynecologic and colorectal surgeries. It is designed to enhance surgical precision and enable smaller incisions, resulting in a quicker recovery for patients.
