Mental Health Awareness Month activities planned to support USA Health staff

For anyone struggling with the pressure of today's world, feeling alone, or wondering whether they can feel better, the USA Health Spiritual Care and Counseling Department is here to help.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the Spiritual Care and Counseling Department at USA Health is offering multiple ways to support you through life’s journey.

The world is constantly changing — for better or for worse — and it can be overwhelming to deal with everything going on around you. While society is getting more comfortable discussing mental health, it still can be hard to know where to start when it comes to taking care of your own well-being.

This month, wellness seminars, support groups, and toolkit activities will help you:

  • LEARN how modern life affects mental health, with new resources to navigate our changing world.
  • ACT by building your coping toolbox, so you can manage stress, difficult emotions, and challenging situations.
  • ADVOCATE to improve mental health for yourself, your friends and family, and your community.

Wellness seminars

Visit HealthStream to sign up for wellness seminars offered by Spiritual Care and Counseling. Topics include REACH: Reaching Out to Offer Hope and Receive Hope; My Tree Life Story: PTSD/Trauma and Coping; Emotional Boundaries; and Second Victim. CE is available for all courses.

Chaplain Kim Crawford Meeks and Fletcher Eaton will lead the 26 live sessions, each an interactive course scheduled at five locations across the USA Health system. Search H2O in HealthStream to register.

Support groups

A new initiative, H2O - Hope Helpers Openhearted peer support groups, are coming soon.

Why H2O? Water is a great symbol for life. If we go to the ocean and stand in it, we know it is there even when it is calm, and we stand strong.

Some days, we plan to stand, but a wave comes out of nowhere and knocks us down. Some days we may feel like we are drowning. H2O - Hope Helpers Openhearted is all about support for those challenging days in life.

Toolkit activities

In addition to the wellness seminars offered in May, H2O Coping Toolkits will be delivered to each unit, and how to add coping resources to the toolkit will be an ongoing discussion. Plan to bring your beach bag and fill it up with hope!

For anyone struggling with the pressure of today's world, feeling alone, or wondering whether they can feel better, the Spiritual Care and Counseling Department is here to help.
