A message to employees about the COVID-19 vaccine

A message to employees about the COVID-19 vaccine from USA Health Chief Medical Officer Michael Chang, M.D.

Published Dec 21st, 2020

USA Health employees,

USA Health strongly encourages ALL of our staff to be vaccinated for COVID-19. Each of us has the responsibility to protect our patients, as well as our coworkers, from becoming ill. Being vaccinated is the best way to carry out that responsibility.

The vaccine has been rigorously tested for effectiveness and safety. While some people have experienced minor side effects, and there have been rare instances where people have had stronger allergic reactions, the vaccine’s effectiveness far outweighs any risks.

Through Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 7 pm, USA Health will conduct drawings every hour between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. for two $25 gift cards to be awarded to staff members who have been vaccinated beginning Monday, Dec. 21.

We began providing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Dec. 15 to staff members. In addition to our staff, we have vaccinated Mobile first responders and healthcare workers at several rural hospitals in our region. To date, more than 1,500 people have received the vaccine.

Vaccination is open now to University of South Alabama health professional students who will be involved in clinical care beginning Jan. 4.

To schedule a vaccine appointment, please complete the USA Health Vaccination Information Registration Form. After completing the form, you will receive an email to schedule your vaccination.

Thank you for all you are doing to keep our patients, community and each other safe and healthy.

Michael Chang, M.D.

USA Health Chief Medical Officer
