In about a week, USA Health plans to open a new site at the Mobile Civic Center to offer monoclonal antibody treatments to those at risk for serious complications from COVID-19.

Health officials with the Biden administration made the announcement about the new monoclonal treatment site late last week after touring the Mobile Civic Center where drive-through COVID-19 testing and vaccinations successfully have been administered for months by USA Health staff members.

White House Senior Policy Advisor for COVID-19 Equity Cameron Webb, M.D., and Miriam E. Delphin-Rittmon, Ph.D., of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services spoke with members of USA Health’s pandemic task force at the Civic Center on Thursday, Sept. 2.

Delphin-Rittman praised the work by USA Health, noting the innovative setup of the indoor drive-through centers.

With an unprecedented number of new COVID cases among area residents, demand has been rising for monoclonal antibody treatments, said Natalie Fox, D.N.P., assistant administrator and chief nursing officer for USA Health Physicians Group.

Plans call for administering about 70 monoclonal antibody treatments per day at the Civic Center. Currently, USA Health is administering about 40 of the treatments per day at University Hospital.

More details about the second monoclonal antibody infusion center run by USA Health will be announced soon.
