USA Health’s centralized care access referral team is optimizing and expanding patient accessibility with the addition of Laiza Ramos-Pamias, a new bilingual referral specialist who provides translation services to USA Health’s Spanish-speaking patients. Ramos-Pamias will play an instrumental role in improving patients’ healthcare experiences by overcoming language barriers between patients and USA Health providers.

“I am excited about being able to assist people in receiving the help and care they need and deserve, and being able to be the bridge that takes them to another level of care and understanding,” Ramos-Pamias said.

Plans call for Ramos-Pamias to provide direct-dial conference call support to assist patients, providers and other team members with scheduling appointments, registration and rooming or visit discussions. She also will collaborate with USA Health clinic leaders to participate in designated clinic days for Spanish-speaking patients.

When scheduled in advance, Ramos-Pamias will serve as an in-person translator for patients in circumstances that require more interaction than video translations provide. Her additional responsibilities will include scheduling and referral management for services, including USA Health OB-GYN, women’s health and orthopaedics, and offering onsite translation services at the OB-GYN clinic on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings.

"There is really no substitute for in-person translation, and I am so happy that we will now be able to offer it," said Amy Mitchell, director of the University of South Alabama Regional Autism Network. "We have noticed a significant increase in calls from Spanish-speaking families, and it will be much less complicated and much more personal to be able to utilize Laiza on these calls."

The regional autism network provides resources and training for people of all ages in Alabama who have autism spectrum disorder.

Outside of the new translation service, USA Health also offers audio and print translations for 125 different languages and dialects and video-format translations in 40 languages. To request translation services when interacting with patients, USA Health team members can call 833-230-6936. For document translation requests, visit www.stratusvideo.com/stratus-word/.
