New MRI machine opens at University Commons, increasing patient access
A new MRI machine is the first at USA Health to be located in an outpatient setting at USA Health Mobile Diagnostic Center at University Commons.
A new MRI machine – housed at USA Health Mobile Diagnostic Center at University Commons – offers USA Health providers an additional option for scheduling outpatient scans.
The machine is the first at USA Health to be located in an outpatient setting, with the other three machines located at University Hospital and Children’s & Women’s Hospital.
Though the location of the MRI is temporary, it will help increase capacity for outpatients and help conveniently serve patients at the Commons location until moved to its permanent home – the imaging center attached to USA Health’s free-standing emergency department in west Mobile set to be operational in 2022.
USA Health providers can schedule a patient for an MRI at University Commons by:
1. Entering the order into Athena or Cerner
2. Clinic staff can call (251) 342-3829 and provide information on what timeframe the patient needs the scan
3. Radiology can schedule the appointment and share the appointment time with the nurse, medical assistant or patient.
