Melody Petty, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, a pediatric hospitalist at Children’s & Women’s Hospital, has been appointed a new role that will better optimize quality, safety, efficiency, and patient-centeredness across the scope of care for children seen within the health system.
Mobile Bay Magazine named three representatives from USA Health and the Whiddon College of Medicine to its annual 40 Under 40 class. Honorees are residents under the age of 40 who demonstrate leadership, professional excellence, and a commitment to the Mobile Bay area.

“Helping patients with lodging and transportation can reduce the financial burden and make it easier for them to get the life-saving treatment they need,” said Sheila McElhany, B.S.W., associate manager of patient support care services for the MCI.
The new area on the 10th floor of University Hospital will accommodate up to 30 patients, including ICU and medical/surgical beds.
“I knew what to expect treatment-wise, but you never know what it’s going to be like until you’re sitting in that chair as a patient,” said Lee Ann Brewer, an oncology nurse at the MCI in Fairhope and a cancer survivor.
With a commitment to create more access to high-quality healthcare in our community, USA Health Pediatrics opened a new office on Moffett Road in Semmes.

Fourth-year medical students matched in 16 states, with 46 students matching out-of-state and 26 students matching in the state of Alabama – 21 of those at USA Health.
The project will expand the number of rooms and allow for larger rooms to better accommodate state-of-the-art equipment.
