PathPic Contest winners announced

The fifth annual contest drew submissions from pathology faculty, residents, cytotechnologists and histotechnologists. Photos could be taken from any pathology tool available.

Pathology faculty, residents, cytotechnologists and histotechnologists submitted their most striking, unusual and comical images for the fifth annual PathPic Contest, hosted by the USA Health Department of Pathology.

Photographs could be taken from any pathology tool available including special stains, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, smears, body fluids and culture plates.

Lingling Xian, M.D., Ph.D., a first-year resident, won the Best PathPic for her entry “Tree of Life.” The award is given for the best photo overall as selected by popular vote.

Thuy Phung, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pathology and director of molecular genetic pathology and dermatopathology, won in the Unusual/Rare Diseases category for her entry “Spring Buds.”

Susan Magliato, electron microscopy supervisor, won in the Artistic/Funny category for her entry “Pac-Man.”

USA Health provides spiritual health resources to employees 

“Healthcare workers have to process and carry many emotions as they care for patients who are experiencing disease and traumatic events,” said Kim Crawford Meeks, manager of the Spiritual Care and Counseling Department. “Safe and sacred spaces to aid in the processing of emotions are vital to our health and ability to sustain this type of work.”
