Since 1996, more than 1.6 million new books have been provided to children in Alabama by more than 300 medical providers in 67 practices and clinics. The goal? Offering young patients a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read together.

Now, Nicolette Holliday, M.D., an OB-GYN at USA Health, is excited to have this added benefit for her patients. Reach Out & Read Alabama, a program of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, recently donated dozens of books to the USA Health Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologic Clinic, which services those under the age of 18.

“I applied to become a Reach Out & Read site about four months ago,” she said. “Now, when pediatric patients come to our clinic, they will receive their own book to read while in clinic that they can take home.”
