The Progressive Care Unit at University Hospital was recognized with the HAC Reduction Award for marking the longest period without a hospital-acquired infection (HAI). The unit currently holds the HAC Cup for the accomplishment.

Hospital-acquired infections, a subset of hospital-acquired conditions (HAC), are infections that patients develop while receiving treatment at a healthcare facility.

Each month, University Hospital recognizes units marking more than 90 days without a hospital-acquired infection by delivering treats to those units. Each quarter, staff members for the top three units are entered in a drawing to win one of six $25 gift cards.
