Persing named division director at Mitchell Cancer Institute

A board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist, Brian E. Persing, M.D., will hold the Arlene and Mayer Mitchell Chair of Medical Oncology.

Brian E. Persing, M.D., has been named division director of hematology/medical oncology at the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, the region’s only academic cancer treatment center.

A board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist, Persing also will hold the Arlene and Mayer Mitchell Chair of Medical Oncology. He joined the MCI in 2020 after more than a decade of experience treating cancer patients.

“I have been impressed with Dr. Persing’s willingness to take on new educational and quality-related projects, and his compassionate care for our patients,” said Martin J. Heslin, M.D., M.S.H.A., director of the Mitchell Cancer Institute. “We are excited for his dedication to all aspects of the academic mission and look forward to watching him grow with the division.”

Persing earned his medical degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. His research interests include lung cancer, physician-patient communication and cancer screening.
