USA Health’s Pam Pickens-Taylor receives Women’s History Month Award

The inaugural women’s history event celebrated the achievements, leadership, and perseverance of women living and working in the Mobile area, acknowledging their roles in shaping history and inspiring future generations.

Pamela Pickens-Taylor, DNP, CRNP, FNP-BC, a family nurse practitioner with USA Health’s Adolescent and Young Adult Health division, was recently honored with a Women's History Month Award from the City of Mobile.

Pickens-Taylor was selected for her outstanding contributions and the significant impact she is making in healthcare. In addition to her role with USA Health, she also serves as a mentor to high school students, encouraging them to pursue careers in healthcare.

Her dedication and ability to connect with both patients and their parents truly sets her apart.”

The inaugural women’s history event celebrated the achievements, leadership, and perseverance of women living and working in the Mobile area, acknowledging their roles in shaping history and inspiring future generations.

Pickens-Taylor has worked in many healthcare areas, having joined USA Health in 2007 as an emergency room trauma nurse at University Hospital.

She earned a master's degree in nursing from the University of Mobile and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. She also completed postgraduate family nurse practitioner studies at Troy University. To better help those struggling with weight issues, she also became certified in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

During her career, she has received numerous awards and recognition including the Mobile Community Health Leadership Award, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health and Human Service Award by People United to Advance the Dream Mobile, Inc. and the Citation of Excellence Award from the Alabama State Nurses Association. In 2019, she was recognized as one of the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare in Alabama by the International Nurses Association.

In 2014, Pickens-Taylor was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as a nurse leader. She is a member of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Organization, Bay Area Nurse Practitioner Association, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Alabama State Nurses Association, Gulf Coast Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Launched in 2024, USA Health’s Adolescent and Young Adult Health clinic exclusively treats patients between the ages of 12 and 25, providing specialized care for this significant time in life. In addition to primary care and preventative medicine, the clinic’s providers, – including Pickens-Taylor, offers treatment for conditions including acne, ADHD, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, gynecological concerns and more. The clinic is located across the street from Spring Hill College at 4300 Old Shell Road next to USA Health Dermatology.
