Betty Pledger recently retired after 40 years of service with the University of South Alabama. In particular, she played a vital role in the Department of Surgery for 35 years, retiring as a Secretary V. At a reception in her honor, staffers said, "She warms everyone she touches. Michael L. Sternberg, M.D., will lead the organization, which provides representation for more than 1,000 physicians practicing in Mobile County to the state’s medical association and advocates for many public service programs.
Presented during an event in Birmingham in December, the award was part of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama’s $1.125 million investment in state-based research in 2024.
