University of South Alabama’s Student Recreation Center members can still take advantage of the facilities and classes during winter break. The center will remain open through Dec. 19 and will also be open Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 28-31. The center resumes its normal hours on Jan. 2.

An in-depth schedule of the center’s hours of operation, including indoor pool hours, is available here. Parts of the recreation center that will remain open include the indoor track, indoor pool (lap swimming only), ping-pong tables, corn hole boards, badminton nets, pool table, cardio and weight machines, and SouthFit classes.

SouthFit classes available during winter break include yoga, Zumba, spinning and water aerobics. These classes are free for all students and Student Recreation Center members. To maintain safety, SouthFit class sizes are limited, and participants will be spaced 12 feet apart. The complete list of SouthFit classes and their schedules can be found on the SouthFit website.

On-campus outdoor facilities also will remain open. These facilities include the Glenn Sebastian Nature Trail, the Jag Fitness Trail and the disc golf course. They are open from dawn to dusk. The USA Outdoor Adventures program has equipment available for rent, including tents, kayaks, mountain bikes, and canoes. Additional information about equipment rental is available here.

The recreation center offers private swimming lessons to adults at the center’s indoor pool. Two 30-minute sessions are $65. Additional information and a link to purchase lessons can be found on the USA Aquatics webpage.

Please note masks are required when entering and exiting the building, as well as in all transition areas, stairways, hallways, elevators, office suites, and the walking track. Masks are also required on the indoor pool deck and back deck when social distancing of at least six feet cannot be maintained. Each area of the recreation center includes signs that show if a mask is required and the maximum number of people that are allowed in that area. It is recommended that patrons wear masks while participating in all fitness activities, but during some activities it is not mandatory.

Student Recreation Center members can purchase a holiday pass for their dependents. Passes are $20, and they grant access to the center during all available hours through Jan. 2. Passes can be purchased online through the Campus Recreation Portal, and additional information about memberships are available here.
