Megan McCaul, M.D., a third-year surgery resident at USA Health, recently presented an abstract at the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Conference in Montreal, Canada.
“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to present this research,” she said. “SAGES gathers so many people from across the country in our field to discuss advances in medicine, and to be selected to present to this group was such an honor.”
McCaul’s research compared laparoscopic and robotic Heller myotomies — procedures for muscle abnormalities at the bottom of the esophagus — with patient outcomes. She concluded that a minimally invasive approach using a robot allowed for greater accuracy during the surgery compared to the laparoscopic procedure and resulted in better patient outcomes.
