A Night Honoring Heroes is a night designed to honor you – the healthcare professionals who provide lifesaving healthcare to patients throughout the Gulf Coast. And, it takes the entire team of hospital personnel to make that happen.
"A Night Honoring Heroes is a very special night where we bring patients and heroes together so they can thank and acknowledge each other," said Sam Dean, University Hospital administrator. "The event also gives us the opportunity to acknowledge all the great things our employees do for the community and our patients every day."
Through the telling of two patients’ stories, A Night Honoring Heroes highlights the courage and dedication of first responders and medical professionals who help patients survive after a traumatic injury.
Andrew Haiflich, MSN, RN, director of trauma services, was named a hero at last year’s event and said the event is a great way to see the number of people from all areas of healthcare that are involved in helping someone who experiences a trauma.
“As a trauma nurse, we don’t often get to see a patient’s full recovery,” Haiflich said. “A Night Honoring Heroes affords us the opportunity to highlight former patients and their journey from injury to recovery. It provides a whole new sense of appreciation for what it takes to be involved in healthcare.”
University Hospital holds a unique role as the region’s only adult Level I Trauma Center, the epicenter of the highest level of care when the unexpected happens. University Hospital is the only area hospital that has an in-house, around the clock trauma team that includes specialized surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, respiratory therapists and others.
“People don’t choose to become involved in healthcare for recognition,” Haiflich said. “It is a selfless career that requires a lot of heart and compassion in order to take care of our fellow community members in their greatest time of need.”
A Night Honoring Heroes is set for Oct. 15 at the Mobile Convention Center. Tickets are $150.
