Trolley clinic leads to vaccinations of more than 100 employees

Face-to-face conversations help prompt employees to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

Twice a day for two days, rolling “trolley” clinics moved from department to department at USA Health University Hospital, where nurse leaders offered the COVID-19 vaccine to employees.

By the end of Thursday, 111 doses had been provided during the four shifts – an encouraging sign for the 28 nurse leaders who planned and executed the effort.

“Being there and being able to have the conversation made it more effective,” said Sheri Salas, director of nursing at University Hospital. “We were able to answer questions one on one.”

The surge in cases of the more contagious delta variant prompted some to accept the shot, Salas said. “We had a lot of employees tell us that they’ve been meaning to get the vaccine,” she said. “Others said they’ve been talking to their co-workers about it.”

Salas said that some of the shots administered were first doses, others were second doses, and a few boosters were given to those who are immunocompromised. A second rolling clinic is planned in three weeks.
