To better serve visitors and staff, University Hospital’s café soon will undergo renovations. Construction will begin this month and is expected to be complete by June.
The remodeling will introduce a more sleek and modern design to the space, with a goal of creating a more open area and additional seating. To make the café feel more spacious, some walls will be removed and replaced with glass. The dining area will get new tabletops and chairs, and a bar to provide expanded seating options.
New features will include an open grill area with a rotisserie chicken station and cook-to-order breakfast omelets. The new grill area will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Instead of collecting orders on handwritten tickets, the updated grill area will have a digital kiosk to place orders for faster and more convenient service. A TV monitor will notify customers when meals are ready.
Danny Gerlits, regional director of Morrison Healthcare, says there will be a drastic change between the café’s current design and the new one. “It’s going to be like night and day,” Gerlits said.
While construction takes place, the café will operate in a temporary space in the conference room neighboring the cafeteria and will serve an abbreviated menu.
“A more efficient use of space in the cafeteria is very much needed,” said Warren Greene, assistant administrator with USA Health.
