University Urology participates in national quality of care monitoring program

As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of care for patients with urologic disease, University Urology is participating in a national urologic disease registry designed to measure and report healthcare quality and patient outcomes.

Designed by the American Urological Association, the Quality Registry (AQUA) is a powerful tool for urologists to observe the course of a disease, understand variations in treatment and outcomes, and examine factors influencing prognosis and quality of life. It can also help urologists describe patient care patterns, monitor safety and harm, and enable them to review and compare data with their peers.

“I’m happy to be part of this organization that is forward-thinking and engaged in developing new tools for patient care. This robust database will allow us to better care for our patients, engage in meaningful research, and also demonstrate how we rank among our peers on a national level,” said Christopher Keel, D.O., F.A.C.S., a urologist with University Urology and adjunct assistant professor of surgery at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.

Participating urologists are informed of the latest AUA clinical guidelines and receive feedback regarding their performance on a range of process and outcome quality measures, benchmarked against the broader registry data. This helps facilitate both the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Physician Quality Reporting System.
