USA Health welcomes new neurologist specializing in movement disorders

USA Health’s Department of Neurology is expanding its practice with the addition of Hanna Czarkowska, M.D., a neurologist who focuses on movement disorders, including but not limited to Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, focal and generalized dystonia, tics, and various forms of tremors.

As one of only two movement disorders specialists in the community, Dr. Czarkowska hopes to improve care access for patients and assure better outcomes through prompt diagnosis and individualized treatment plans.

“Most conditions classified as movement disorders are chronic and progressive.” she said. “This seems daunting at first as I am not saving lives and not curing diseases all that often. I can, however, greatly improve the quality of life for my patients and their families with the current wide array of medical, surgical, and alternative treatment choices, and a listening ear thrown in for good measure.”

Dr. Czarkowska earned her medical degree from Jagiellonian University School of Medicine in Krakow, Poland. Prior to pursuing her movement disorders fellowship at the North Shore-LIJ Health System in Manhasset, New York, she completed a neurology residency at Stony Brook Medicine in Stony Brook, New York. She returned to that institution as an assistant professor after her fellowship and worked there for the last six years.

Dr. Czarkowska is an active member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and the American Academy of Neurology. She also has published a variety of research abstracts and journal publications and is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
