Providing protection: USA Health continues to deliver COVID-19 vaccines to the community

With a goal of vaccinating as many people as possible against COVID-19, USA Health held several community clinics between March 29 and April 2, making it more convenient for people who otherwise might not be able to receive the injection to protect against the virus. More events are scheduled this week in addition to weekday clinics planned at the Mobile Civic Center.
On March 29-31, dozens of residents were vaccinated at three separate events planned for seniors residing in apartment complexes in Mobile. On April 1, more than 400 students and faculty members received their first doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the Mitchell Center on the campus of the University of South Alabama. In partnership with the City of Mobile, USA Health staff also vaccinated an additional 275 people during a community-based clinic in the Tillman’s Corner area.
On a sunny but chilly Good Friday morning before Easter, the Rev. Wayne Bradley attended the drive-through vaccine event at First Baptist Tillman's Corner. After receiving his first dose at the Mobile Civic Center three weeks earlier, Bradley was excited to complete the two-dose series.
"Everything was perfect," he said of the vaccine experience, while sitting in the back seat of his family's vehicle.
Bradley, 82, of Bay Minette, Ala., a retired pastor of several Mobile-area churches, served as a chaplain with USA Health for five years. During that time, he formed relationships with many patients and developed a great respect for the doctors, nurses and staff.
When he collapsed in his home because of heart failure, Bradley became a patient of USA Health. He credits his care team at University Hospital with saving his life.
"That's the only hospital I would go to if my life was on the line. It's the best hospital in the Southeast," Bradley said. "They saved my life."
Since Dec. 15, 2020, USA Health has provided more than 52,000 doses of the COVID-19. Up to 1,000 doses of vaccine are given each day, Monday through Friday, at the Mobile Civic Center Arena in downtown Mobile.
USA Health’s online registry is a fast and efficient way for eligible people to arrange for appointments to be vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at the Mobile Civic Center Arena. Those who want to make an appointment can sign up here: usahealthvaccines.com.
