Every 10 years, the United States counts the number of people who live in the nation. This understanding of where people live determines the number of representatives each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives. This may not sound like such a big deal, but it is. This representation can impact dramatically the federal funding received by each state. And that is very important, especially in the healthcare arena. Literally billions of dollars from federal health care and research programs flow into the state.

To help people at USA Health, we are teaming up with the Alabama Hospital Association for the “Hospitals Count” campaign. On March 18, we will have people at the cafeterias of both hospitals from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. manning laptops and helping people complete their census forms. We also will have information for people who will complete forms elsewhere.

To make this effort work, we are in need of volunteers at each location. AlaHA has donated shirts for us so that we can reward our volunteers. If you are interested, please contact Carol McPhail at [email protected].

Remember, we all count.
