Hope is a powerful — some would even say necessary — emotion that can be helpful to draw upon every day. Holding on to hope can serve as inspiration to persevere through difficult times, motivation to pursue dreams and goals, and support to overcome challenges.

If finding hope and holding onto it sounds out of reach, don’t worry. Seeking hope is a choice, and it’s one we can learn to make every day using the following tips:

  • Practice gratitude. Take time to appreciate the things you have and the experiences that bring you joy. Reflect on the positive aspects of your life and appreciate even the little things.
  • Connect with others. Surround yourself with supportive friends, family or community that uplift and encourage you. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with a network of loved ones can provide comfort and support.
  • Set goals. Having something to work toward, whether small or large, can provide a sense of purpose and optimism. Identify achievable tasks that can give you a feeling of accomplishment.
  • Engage in self-care. Pursue hobbies and activities that bring you happiness and fulfillment. Make sure to schedule time for exercise, meditation, and other things that recharge you.
  • Seek inspiration. Whether through books, art, nature, or spirituality, find sources of inspiration that speak to your heart. Whatever they are, surround yourself with uplifting resources.
  • Stay mindful. Embrace the present moment and focus on the positive aspects of your life. Practice appreciating the beauty of each day, whether it is something large or small.
  • Help others. Volunteering or simply lending a hand to someone in need can foster a sense of hope and purpose.
  • Seek professional help. If you are struggling with finding hope, it is important to reach out to mental health professionals for support and guidance.

Remember, finding hope is a journey, and it is OK to seek help and take small steps toward a more hopeful outlook.
