Local artist makes donation to Children's & Women's Hospital chapel
The artwork, titled "Tranquil Seascape," will offer a calming presence for the many families, patients and employees who visit the space.

Local artist Bruna Christian recently donated a painting to the Spiritual Health and Counseling Department, and it will be displayed in the chapel at Children's & Women's Hospital. The artwork, titled "Tranquil Seascape," will offer a calming presence for the many families, patients and employees who visit the space.
A native of Mozambique, Christian has lived half her life in Africa, but has called Mobile home since the late 1980s. "I don’t paint for any specific audience or mission; I paint simply because I love to paint. Painting is my peaceful place,” she said. "My art is heavily driven by being close to nature and close to wildlife growing up in Africa and more recently my experience here on the Gulf Coast."
Her original works can be found in homes in the United States, as well as Portugal, Switzerland, England, and Canada. Innova Art Gallery in Midtown and the Arts of Dauphin Island Gallery feature her artwork locally.
"I paint oil on canvas because it allows me to best achieve the bold, colorful results I want. My style is detailed and realistic though I sometimes soften the realism a little to achieve an effect or emotion," Christian said. "I have developed my skills by in-person and video seminars with the late John Seerey-Lester and Dwayne Harty."
