Laan named Alabama representative for bariatric surgery society
Danuel Laan, M.D., FACS, FASMBS, will advocate on both a local and national level for further access to medical care for patients suffering with obesity.

Danuel Laan, M.D., FACS, FASMBS, director of bariatric surgery at USA Health Providence Hospital, has been appointed as the Alabama State Access to Care Representative (STAR) for the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
In this position, Laan will advocate on both a local and national level for further access to medical care for patients with obesity. He is one of six state representatives serving the organization’s Southeast Central region.
“Patients who are affected by obesity deserve access to appropriate, safe and effective medical care,” Laan said. “I look forward to working with other healthcare providers as we address barriers to care in Alabama and elsewhere.”
Laan recently was named to Mobile Bay Magazine’s 40 Under 40, a listing of honorees under the age of 40 who demonstrate leadership, professional excellence, and a commitment to the Mobile Bay area.
Laan accepts patients at USA Health Providence Bariatrics, an accredited comprehensive center for bariatric surgery as recognized by the American College of Surgeons.
