The University of South Alabama won Best Local College while USA Health was voted Best Local Company to Work for (Over 50 Employees) in the 2024 Lagniappe readers’ choice contest.

Maran Ramani, M.D., was awarded a three-year grant from the Thrasher Research Fund in 2022 to conduct a multinational clinical study, known as the Azithromycin Brain neuroprotection for Children study.

“As director of the Stanton Road Clinic, my goal is to make the ambulatory experience for residents one that encourages learning and fosters continued interest in the primary care field of internal medicine,” said Luke Mueller, D.O.

Over the past 16 years, the GO Run has raised nearly $1 million in support of gynecologic cancer research, clinical trials and outreach at the MCI.

After helping teenager Lulu Gribbin survive a life-threatening shark attack, USA Health nurse Delanie Quinnelly Richardson was asked to share her story at a Children’s & Women’s Hospital town hall meeting earlier this month.

The new initiative will help combat cycles of violent crime and retaliation by engaging crime victims as they are being treated in the hospital and connecting victims and their families to long-term services and support.

“USA Health is an excellent organization invested in performance improvement, and this award and nomination are a reflection of how that is instilled in their employees,” said Candice Powers, M.B.A., CRCR, CRCA.

Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other gynecologic cancer. Only about 20% of cases are diagnosed at an early stage, when the disease is more treatable.

“Andrew Coniff has such a talent for conveying emotion through video. To be recognized with an international award is such a testament to Andrew’s work," said Marie Katz, executive director for the USA Health Office of Marketing and Communications.

“We are partnering with leading technology development to best help our patients and push the field forward,” Richard Menger, M.D., M.P.A., said.

The grant will support the investigation of issues regarding social justice in social stratification, health disparities, environmental justice, and racial equity.

“These additions to our team will allow us to treat patients in a timely manner with the best tools and expertise,” said Nasser Lakkis, M.Sc.-M.D., FACC.
