The women’s services team at the hospital, with support from University of South Alabama colleagues, has launched a variety of projects to raise awareness and help save the lives of those most impacted by maternal health disparities.
“This center will help expand access to ALS care along the Gulf Coast, making a positive impact on patients and their families, but it will also honor a great man in Kelly Butler,” said Owen Bailey. “The lives he touched are too many to count, and through this center, his legacy will live on and impact many more lives for decades to come.”

During his sports medicine fellowship, Bishop Carmichael, D.O., CAQSM, worked in the University of Kentucky Sports Medicine Clinic, served as a fellow physician for Division I SEC athletic teams, and was a team physician for Eastern Kentucky University and Henry Clay High School.
Colleagues and friends remembered retired pediatrician Cindy Sheets as someone who loved her family, her work in academic medicine, and introducing young children to books through the early literacy program Reach Out and Read.
The staff at Children’s & Women’s Hospital are dedicated to increasing the bond between a mother and baby through research-backed practices, including breastfeeding, which offers health benefits for moms and infants including lower risks of cancers, diabetes, and other diseases.

Ehab Molokhia, M.D., will serve as interim family medicine chair, as Allen Perkins, M.D., M.P.H., shifts his focus to continued efforts on healthcare access in underserved areas.
Last year, more than 100 student athletes were treated on Saturdays at USA Health for injuries ranging from fractures and tears to sprains and strains.
