USA Health University Hospital recently received certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center from DNV Healthcare USA Inc., reflecting the highest level of competence for treatment of serious stroke events.

“Stroke care is a time-critical event. Clinicians and resources must coordinate care timely and efficiently to create the best outcome for a stroke patient,” said Shannon Scaturro, M.S.H.A., University Hospital administrator. “This certification from DNV validates all the effort and focus our team places on this program to ensure the health and safety of our patients.”

The DNV Comprehensive Stroke Center certification is based on standards set forth by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association, and it affirms that the medical center addresses the full spectrum of stroke care – diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education – and establishes clear metrics to evaluate outcomes. The comprehensive stroke certification is the highest level of certification for hospitals with specific abilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases.

“Achieving certification shows commitment to excellence,” said Kelly Proctor, president of DNV Healthcare. “And it helps demonstrate to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”

University Hospital is one of just three comprehensive stroke centers in the state of Alabama, and the only comprehensive stroke center in the region.
