Since 2018, Project Inspire has served the community with a program that utilizes a robust curriculum to provide education, exposure and new experiences for select teens in the juvenile justice system.
The collaboration between the Center for Healthy Communities and USA’s Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences will offer opportunities for high school students to examine environmental hazards and their impacts on the health of Gulf Coast residents.
“We have all the stakeholders present at the table. The next steps will include implementation of strategies, measuring outcomes, and evaluating effectiveness,” said Ashley Williams Hogue, M.D., a trauma surgeon at USA Health and director of the USA Health Center for Healthy Communities.

Since it was founded in 2017, Project Inspire has helped 25 teens see themselves through a new lens of empowerment.
“The symposium is such a great way to develop relationships with everyone who treats trauma patients in our region, which ultimately improves survival and outcomes."

Mobile Bay Magazine recognized seven representatives from the University of South Alabama and USA Health among its annual 40 Under 40 class. Honorees are residents under the age of 40 who demonstrate leadership, professional excellence, and a commitment to the Mobile Bay area.

Ashley Williams Hogue, M.D., won the 2023 Cox-Templeton Injury Prevention Paper Competition from the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
Ashley Williams Hogue, M.D., received one of the nation’s highest honors for a junior trauma surgeon.
The focus of the presentation was to explore the idea that trauma centers can feasibly lead community-based initiatives that aim to curb gun violence and positively impact the community.
