About Capsule Endoscopy
Capsule endoscopy is a less invasive alternative to colonoscopy that allows doctors to see the entire small intestine using a disposable miniature video camera contained in a pill. The specialized capsule camera with a long-lasting battery evaluates the colon for polyps or masses. It passes naturally through the digestive tract, recording high-quality color video images that are transmitted and stored on a recorder belt worn by the patient throughout the day. Soon after swallowing the capsule, the patient takes the belt back to the doctor’s office. The test is painless, noninvasive and can be done while the patient goes about normal daily activities. USA Gastroenterology was one of the first places in the country to offer capsule endoscopy colon examinations for patients who are unable to undergo colonoscopy.
