Plastic and Reconstructive Services Available

There are three basic kinds of services available through USA Health plastic and reconstructive surgery providers.

Preventive/Remedial

The threat of skin cancer is high along the Gulf Coast. USA Health plastic surgeons can help patients prevent cancer and treat skin cancers as they arise.

Reconstructive

Our specialist help patients who have experienced a medical condition or trauma that has affected their appearance by reconstructing the areas.

Cosmetic/Aesthetic

USA Health providers offer a variety of both surgical and nonsurgical treatments to address an individual’s appearance.

Below is a list of treatments that we provide:

Body Contouring
Following childbirth or significant weight loss, a person may have excess layers of skin. These folds, often in the abdomen, back, legs, arms and breasts, may interfere with a person’s normal routine and can cause uncomfortable rashes. Body contouring surgeries help relieve these symptoms by reshaping the affected areas of the body.

Breast Augmentation Procedures
Technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enlarges the shape and size of a woman's breast. Reasons for this procedure include:

  • Enhance the body contour of a woman who feels her breast size is too small
  • Correct a reduction in breast volume that has occurred after pregnancy
  • Create balance and more symmetry between breasts of a different size

Breast Reconstruction
For patients who have undergone removal of a breast due to cancer or another medical condition, breast reconstruction allows them to physically regain what has been lost. Our surgeons use state-of-the-art surgical techniques to recreate a breast that closely matches the patient’s natural breast in both appearance and form.

Breast Reduction
Some women feel like their breasts are too large. In some cases, overly large breasts can cause pain and discomfort. Others note that their breasts vary in size and wish for them to be more symmetrical. In either such cases, breast reduction is an option to reduce breast volume.

Chemical Peels
Individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation may benefit from a chemical peel. This procedure involves a using chemical solution that can smooth facial skin by removing damaged outer layers. A chemical peel can address precancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars and help to control acne.

Correcting Congenital Abnormalities and Effects of Trauma
Plastic surgeons can correct birthmarks, hand deformities and deformed ears among other common congenital abnormalities. Children born with a cleft palate or lip benefit from reconstructive surgery, which should be performed while the child is young. In trauma cases, our specialists use reconstructive surgery to treat individuals with scars, burns and injuries.

Eyelid Surgery
Cosmetic eyelid surgery is offered to patients to tighten lower eyelid skin, minimize bags under the eyes and remove the drooping skin and excess fat of upper eyelids. Surgery results in a more alert, more rested appearance and also alleviates vision problems caused by drooping eyelids.

Facelift Surgery
Facelifts can improve the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles and re-draping your face and neck skin. This procedure can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures like cosmetic eyelid surgery, nose reshaping or a forehead lift. Most facelift patients are 40 to 60 years of age, but facelifts also can be successfully performed on people in their 70s and 80s.

Hand Surgery
Hand surgery is complicated and requires extra training for plastic surgeons, but sometimes it’s necessary for individuals who have endured trauma, on-the-job injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, or arthritis in the hands. Our specialists regularly diagnose and treat hand injuries using microsurgery. In fact, we have an on-site therapist who works one-on-one with patients to facilitate recovery.

Liposuction
Liposuction procedures are surgical procedures to remove excess fat from specific areas of a person’s body, face and neck. It can be used to flatten the abdomen, slim the hips and thighs, reduce a double chin or shape the calves and ankles. Liposuction is not a solution for the morbidly obese. It is most commonly recommended for men and women of normal weight who simply want to improve the contour of their body.

Nonsurgical Facial Treatments
USA Health plastic surgeons use Botox®, fillers and peels (mentioned above) to help patients rejuvenate their appearance without surgery. Botulinum toxin, or Botox as it is commonly known, helps eliminate wrinkles. Dermal fillers help define, augment or increase the fullness of your lips.

Skin Cancer Treatments
Skin cancer is widespread in the South where mild temperatures and sunshine tempt the population to spend lots of time outdoors. When skin cancer occurs, USA Health plastic surgeons can detect and remove precancerous and cancerous lesions to help minimize damage to the affected area. If the cancer appears to be the more serious melanoma, our team can work with the specialists at the Mitchell Cancer Institute to help patients get the most appropriate course of treatment.
